Our Favorite Baby Board Books

My ten-month-old has had quite the collection of books since before she was even born! Even with over 60 books, there are some that we find ourselves returning to over and over. It is so important for children to be read to, even at a young age. While my baby cannot comprehend the words or concepts quite yet, I still like to be sure that the books I’m choosing are life-giving and meaningful. I love that the books we read over and over have significance. It’s always a bonus if the illustrations are beautiful, too!

So, you won’t find any Dr. Seuss or Eric Carle on this list (sorry!!), but you will find our favorite board books that are life-giving and meaningful for both baby and parents.

If you have a baby in your life, or an upcoming baby shower, consider gifting one of these special books!

Snuggle Time Psalms Glenys Nellist

We LOVE the Snuggle Time books around here! My baby loves the pictures and even at a young age would get excited when we pulled this book out. Each poem is based on a different Psalm. In times of sickness or stress, my heart was comforted by reading these words aloud to my child. And since the poems are short, you can read as many as you have time for before bed.

This sweet story is a conversation between Little Nutbrown Hare and his daddy. Who loves the other the most and the biggest? This classic of over 25 years beautifully presents the love of a parent for a child. Paired with simple, whimsical art, this book will certainly tug at your heartstrings each time you read it!

This book was gifted to me by a sweet prayer warrior from my church; after reading it, I realized I used to love this book as a child! The illustrations are beautiful, and the words are Psalm 23 paraphrased. With only one sentence or phrase on a page, reading this book out loud helps you dwell on each truth. This is a keepsake book that my child will treasure as she grows older.

This book is beautiful. Filled with facts about the Bible, and even backed up with verses about Scripture itself, this is a great way to help a child become familiar with Scripture. The illustrations are gorgeous and brightly colored—the cover itself is perfect for displaying in a nursery!

This board book set contains one of the most classic children’s series! It includes The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher, The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, The Tale of Two Bad Mice, and The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies. Illustrated by a NYT Bestselling artist, these books are beautiful book to look through. The abridged stories still contain a wide variety of literary words which will be so good for your little one to hear! I love the refinement that reading these classic books brings to our day.

Our God: A Shapes Primer Danielle Hitchen

This board book is both durable and foundational. It connects simple shapes with big concepts about God. God is our rock, the bread of life, eternal, and more. I also appreciate the Scripture verses sprinkled throughout! This is a fun way to introduce theological concepts at a young age—and more importantly, teach children about Who God is.

Which books will you pick up to give a new baby in your life?

And as my baby grows older, what books should I add to this list?
