Podcasts I’m Loving Lately

I’m always looking for ways to continue learning, especially now that I’ve completed higher education and left the workforce. One of the ways I’ve been able to do that is through a variety of podcasts! At first, they were a way to listen to something interesting during my long commute to work. Now, as a stay at home mom, I turn on a podcast while I fold laundry or wash the dishes. Even if it’s just ten or fifteen minutes a day, I enjoy the little snippets of education and encouragement that I can get through my favorite podcasts.

Since a podcast is in many ways a “one sided” conversation, when I find one that I really enjoyed or gleaned helpful information from, I have been desiring an outlet to share that with my friends and family. So I thought I would take a few minutes to link some episodes that I’ve listened to recently, and share my takeaways. Rather than list every podcast I’ve listened to, I’m only choosing to link a few of the most impactful episodes.

Note: Just because I link a podcast here doesn’t mean that I agree with the organization or podcast on everything!

No Higher Calling: A Door to Wonder and Imagination

I’ve loved following Brettnay’s podcast on all sorts of homemaking and biblical topics. In this episode, she talks about cultivating imagination and wonder in childhood. I resonated with this topic so much, as I grew up on Lewis and Tolkien and my childhood truly was filled with imagination. I look forward to being able to cultivate that experience with my own children in the future. This episode gave a great case for why homeschool parents should prioritize this and covered different aspects of the conversation, including freedom and boundaries. Spoiler alert: cultivating imagination will include good literature!

M Is For Mama Podcast: Christian Parents + The Library (A Chat With Good Book Mom)

I had never heard of the Good Book Mom before listening to this episode, but this topic is SO important. I grew up going to library multiple times a week, checking out so many books, and using the library to research for homeschool papers. Now that I’m a mom, I’m enjoying the experience of introducing my daughter to the local library, but am concerned about some anti-biblical agendas that are increasingly prevalent in libraries. She’s still young so this topic is more for the future.

I learned so much about how librarians function and how to engage respectfully when your library promotes progressive material that you do not agree with. This is such an important topic for Christian families.

Journeywomen: Back to the Basics 3: Scripture Memory and Meditation with Glenna Marshall

Wow, was this a convicting listen! I also had never heard of Glenna Marshall prior to this interview, but quickly added her new book to my “to be read” list. This episode walked through the importance of Scripture memory and contained some really practical advice about implementing this Spiritual discipline. I haven’t intentionally worked on memorizing Scripture since high school, so this is something I have felt convicted about for a long time and will definitely be listening to this interview multiple times to remind myself of the importance!

These are a few things that have been on my mind lately. Do you listen to podcasts? What’s one that you recommend, or an episode you’d like to share with me?
